I'm so delighted to have experienced being in conversation with Becks Daniels BEM alongside an incredible young man and his mum. The importance of hearing young people's voices and those of their families was highlighted so well at this amazing conference. I hadn't realised it was the first ever one for children and young people's nurses so I feel very proud to have taken part.

I had the opportunity to share a powerful extract from my book with community nurses during their national network meeting. I talked about learning to insert an NG tube for my daughter, emphasising the emotional trauma and PTSD parents experience when thrust into medical roles. I was able to highlight the importance of empathetic, competent nursing and clear communication.
I'm delighted to say my presentation sparked deep reflection among attendees on how nurses teach and support parents.
Below are some of the comments from participants.
Thanks Sheila. I'm halfway through your book, it's so inspiring and insightful and I will be seeking to have it added as a core text on our children's nursing programme at the University of Brighton.
Thanks Sheila, I think it is clear that we will all look at things differently now by you sharing your experience. So brave and powerful of you.
Sheila this is so powerful, and although so many years have passed the description in the passage was crystal clear and really reflected how much this significant experience resonated with you , thank you x
