Sheila has worked in teaching, publishing and content marketing before writing her memoir Can I speak to Josephine please? (published 2024)  the story of her life with her profoundly disabled daughter.  

Can I speak to Josephine please? has already reached several parts of the healthcare system. As well as being an effective teaching tool for students, it has provided an insight for experienced practitioners working both in clinical and community settings. 

University of the West of England (UWE) 

Led seminars for adult and CYP nursing students. The memoir is a core text on the university’s midwifery degree course. Assisted in recruiting candidates for the Children’s and Young People’s (CYP) nursing and midwifery degrees.  Contributed to the NMC approval event for the MSc Specialist Practice and PGDip Specialist Practice Degree Apprenticeship programmes. 

Leeds University 

Contributed to the design of children’s nursing candidate interview questions. 

Northumbria University

Joint Speaker at CYP Nursing conference 2025

Assisted in review of curriculum for children’s nursing.

Sheila’s memoir is a textbook on the community nursing module.
